Woman seriously injured in DUI crash following police pursuit in Pacific Beach

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 24-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after a suspected DUI driver fleeing police crashed into another vehicle Friday evening in Pacific Beach, authorities said.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident began around 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a Vons supermarket on Garnet Avenue, where officers responded to reports of a man allegedly smoking narcotics inside a vehicle and behaving erratically.

When officers arrived, the suspect — a 39-year-old man driving a 2014 Mercedes CLA250 — fled the scene heading eastbound on Garnet Avenue. Police initiated a pursuit at that time.

During the chase, the Mercedes collided with a 2020 Hyundai Veloster, ultimately disabling both vehicles.

A 24-year-old female passenger in the Hyundai was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was treated for multiple fractured vertebrae, police said…
