Math Teacher Michelle Walker Honored As CHS Teacher Of The Year

Michelle Walker, a mathematics teacher at Coronado High School, recently received the CHS Teacher of the Year Award, a recognition she was “incredibly honored and a little overwhelmed” by.

Walker has deep roots in both San Diego and in education. She was born and raised in San Diego, and has stayed rooted here her entire life. After graduating from San Diego State University, “I accepted my first teaching position at Lincoln High School. A couple of years later, a math position opened at Coronado High School. My best friend was already teaching here, and the idea of working alongside someone I admired in a community as special as Coronado made the decision an easy one.”

Teaching, Walker explained, is also a large part of her family’s story. “My dad taught graphic arts at Lincoln High School, then at East County Cultural Complex, and eventually became a professor of graphic arts at San Diego State. My mom began as an elementary school teacher before moving into district administration as the Director of Payroll.”…
