Around the Bluhmin’ Town: Signs

Have you read any good signs or headlines lately? Some will give us a good chuckle. “Queen Mary Having Bottom Scraped” was the naughty header in a Long Beach magazine. What was the Los Angeles Times thinking when it prints, “Autos Killing Over One Hundred a Day – We Can Do Better!” A Tucson newspaper posted, “Private Water Company Keeps Residents Thirsty for Truth.”

Surely the Italian journal that had an article title, “Prostitutes Appeal Strongly to the Pope” was going to have a lot of explaining to do. A financial website wrote that “Diaper Market Is Becoming Messy.” Meanwhile in San Diego, a headline screamed, “Panda Mating Fails; Veterinarian Takes Over.”

Road signs and bumper stickers can be amusing. Or can cause trouble. A lady in a Mercedes talking on her cell phone on the I-10 in Phoenix boldly (stupidly) had a bumper sticker that read, “Don’t interrupt my phone call with your honking, turning, stopping or going. I need to concentrate!” She was pulled over by a motorcycle cop…
