Road safety improvements coming to La Mesa as school starts

The La Mesa City Council has unanimously voted to install a “no turn on red” sign at the intersection of El Paso and Lake Murray Boulevard, to make the intersection safe for pedestrians, including children walking to school.

A parent, Megan Webb, began a change.org petition in November 2025. She sought to improve the intersection’s safety because a car nearly hit her child while walking to Murray Manor Elementary.

“It’s a moment that has shaken me to the core and urged me to advocate for immediate changes to protect our community’s children,” Webb wrote. “Walking our children to school should be safe and stress-free.”…
