Death at Southern California prison investigated as homicide

Officials are investigating the recent death of an inmate at a California state prison as a homicide, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced Saturday.

Staff at the Richard J. Donovan Prison in San Diego County allegedly found 66-year-old prisoner Hector Ozuna unresponsive inside his cell at 6:07 a.m. on Aug. 1. Ozuna was sharing the cell with his cellmate, 30-year-old Alexis Guerrero, at the time of the suspected homicide, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said.

“Staff immediately responded and continued life-saving measures on Ozuna as they transferred him to the prison’s triage and treatment area,” a CDCR press release reads…
