SAN MARCOS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras helped San Diego County sheriff’s deputies make multiple arrests in separate incidents in San Marcos in recent weeks, including the capture of a wanted felon and three suspects accused of organized retail theft.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies relied on alerts generated by the county’s LPR system in both investigations, with officials emphasizing how the technology supports authorities in addressing criminal activity.
Wanted felon arrest
On Saturday, Aug. 1, deputies with the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station were searching for 52-year-old Ivan Chi, who was wanted on two felony arrest warrants for identity theft and possession of a controlled substance for sale.
Around 8:30 a.m., deputies received an alert from the LPR camera system indicating Chi’s vehicle had been detected near West Mission Road and Barham Drive.
Deputies located the vehicle and detained Chi while he was sitting inside. During their investigation, deputies also discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession…
