La Mesa police and a helicopter descended on the 3700 block of Riviera Drive before dawn today after reports of possible gunshots in the residential neighborhood. Officers asked anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to call 911 as the search unfolded.
The La Mesa Police Department announced the search in a post on its official account, stating that officers and a helicopter were searching the area for possible gunshots reported near the 3700 block of Riviera Drive. The department urged residents to dial 911 immediately if they spotted or heard anything out of the ordinary while the operation was underway. Riviera Drive sits in a suburban stretch of single-family homes near State Route 94 and Highway 125, according to the City of La Mesa.
As of this report, it remains unclear whether officers or the air crew located spent casings, property damage, or a suspect near the scene, or whether the report of gunfire will ultimately be confirmed. La Mesa police have not yet released additional details beyond the initial advisory.
