SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Did you see something large and shiny in the sky over San Diego on Friday? Well it wasn’t your imagination, a U.S. aerospace and material science company was testing internet and messaging from a high-altitude system as it flew through the stratosphere from New Mexico to Japan, and back, crossing through San Diego.
But, the test flight may have been the reason San Diego Airport traffic was impacted as hundreds of flights arriving and departing were delayed Friday night after the airport issued a ground delay through midnight due to security.
Flights on average were delayed about two hours on Friday.
Sceye, a U.S. aerospace and material science company specializing in High-Altitude Platform Systems (HAPS) for telecommunications and real-time environmental monitoring was testing internet access, text messaging, voice calls, video streaming and more from a flight that went 15,000 km across the Pacific in 13 days that left on Aug. 9…
