San Diego Police Investigating Double Homicide in Barrio Logan

Two men were fatally shot late Saturday night in Barrio Logan, the San Diego Police Department reported Sunday.

SDPD said that they responded to shots fired around 1700 Newton Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Saturday evening. When officers arrived, they found one man dead on the scene. The other man was transported to a local hospital, but did not survive his wounds.

Officers believe the suspect to be a hispanic male in his 30’s, around 5’10” with short hair and a full beard. It is also believed that the suspect left the scene in a white Kia Forte.

The city website describes Barrio Logan as one of the oldest and most culturally rich neighborhoods in San Diego. The area is home to Chicano park, housing dozens of murals depicting the community’s past activism.

A report recently released by the San Diego Association of governments found that the murder rate is dropping in both the city and county.
