Mira Mesa family warns of rental scam using their Zillow listing on Facebook

SAN DIEGO — A Mira Mesa family discovered their accessory dwelling unit listing on Zillow had been allegedly copied and used in a supposed rental scam that charged people money to view the property.

“A nice lady came up and said, ‘Hi, I’m looking for the ADU. I would love to see it, the problem is- is that they had no idea who she was because she did not apply through Zillow, their only official listing,” Jessica Yocum, the daughter of the property owners, said.

When Yocum’s parents asked how the woman found the listing, she pointed to a Facebook post. The family quickly realized someone had used their Zillow photos and description, then reposted them on Facebook with a reduced price to attract renters…
