San Marcos Gun Safety Event yields over 200 firearms in exchange for cash

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office (SDSO) announced on Saturday that over 200 firearms were collected in exchange for gift cards during a Gun Safety Event in San Marcos.

The “no questions asked” gun buyback event allowed residents to anonymously turn in unwanted guns in exchange for a gift card. According to SDSO, handguns, rifles and shotguns were exchanged for $100 gift cards, while assault weapons were turned in for $200 gift cards.

Saturday’s Gun Safety Event, held at the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., yielded 266 unwanted firearms, according to SDSO.

Free firearm lock boxes and trigger locks were also available at the event while supplies lasted…
