CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A barbecue restaurant combining Texas-style BBQ and love for heavy metal music has opened in Chula Vista, blending the passions of its owner, a former competitive power lifter known simply as Heavy.
Heavy’s Smokehouse, located inside the Santa Fe Meat Market, opened two months ago and is already drawing customers from across the region. The restaurant’s owner earned his nickname partly from his days as a competitive power lifter—when he could deadlift five hundred pounds—but primarily because of his love for heavy metal music.
“It gets me going. It pumps my energy up,” said Heavy. “I feel the music when it comes through, it’s so aggressive.”…
