ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Zoo Safari Park recently announced the birth of a newborn pudu, the world’s smallest species of deer.
The female pudu fawn was born over the weekend at the safari park, which is located in Escondido.
Pudus, which are native to South America, stay small through adulthood, reaching only up to 17 inches tall.
They can be found in the dense forests of Chile and Argentina and eat food sources close to the ground such as fallen fruit, leaves, twigs and lower branches of trees…
