This 98-year-old Bay Area market offers an incredible fish and chips deal

In recent years, on El Camino Real in Menlo Park, developments like Springline and the Villa Menlo Park have brought buzzy dining and shopping to the city — including an omakase restaurant that starts at $119 per person and a luxury Swiss watchmaker’s first U.S. boutique.

On the corner where the thoroughfare meets Roble Avenue, however, restaurant-slash-market Cook’s Seafood has beckoned patrons since 1928. Today, its signature fish and chips can still be enjoyed for under 10 bucks.

“There are generations of the same family who have dined here,” proprietor Roy Crumrine said. “It’s a no-frills kind of place. We’re not trying to be white tablecloth or anything like that.”…
