S.F. chef announces closure of fine dining restaurant, citing his health

Anomaly SF, an ambitious tasting-menu restaurant that began as a pop-up, will suspend operations later this month, owner and Chef Mike Lanham said Friday. Lanham said he is stepping away from the restaurant to address health concerns and spend time with family, in a message posted on Instagram. “I have some health issues I need to take care of as well as some family members I need to spend time with while I still have the opportunity,” Lanham wrote Friday evening. The announcement brings an abrupt end to a nearly decade-long run for Anomaly, which built a following through intimate, highly personal tasting menus through pop-ups before opening a permanent location at 2600 Sutter Street in Lower Pacific Heights. The chef thanked customers and employees who helped shape the restaurant over the past nine years.

“I realize it’s not common for people in this field to completely take time away, especially chefs and owners. Maybe we should change that,” he wrote.
