Bay Area police seek distinctive-looking suspect in kidnap attempt

Hayward police are seeking a distinctive-looking suspect in an alleged kidnapping attempt that happened in broad daylight on Friday.

According to Hayward police, a woman was walking near the Hayward DMV on Soto Road shortly after 3 p.m. While she was walking down Soto, a man going the opposite direction passed by. He then “suddenly grabbed” her and began pulling her away, police said. She fought and screamed, drawing the attention of two nearby witnesses. The good Samaritans “immediately intervened,” causing the suspect to run away, police said.

The man was approximately 5-foot-7 and 120 pounds, with “bushy” hair and “unique-colored eyes.” “Witnesses described him as resembling a ‘Justin Bieber look-alike,’” Hayward police said in a statement. He was wearing a white T-shirt with red paint, black pants and a black cross-body bag, and witnesses reported seeing him escaping southbound on Soto Road.
