After nearly two decades of drawing regulars to its compact College Avenue dining room, Wood Tavern is preparing for a final service. The Rockridge brasserie will close when its lease ends at the close of the year, co-owners Rich and Rebekah Wood have confirmed, even as their other projects stay in the mix.
The roughly 50-seat restaurant opened in 2007 and quickly became a neighborhood staple, the kind of place where a small room could feel like half the block. That is part of why the decision to walk away has hit so hard for the people behind it.
As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, Rich Wood called the move so emotional and so personal, adding, “It’s unspeakable to think about what we’re about to do.” The Chronicle notes that the dining room remains busy even as the couple weighs future projects.
