Pleasanton, California — A rapidly spreading wildfire prompted evacuation orders Tuesday afternoon after flames raced across 1,000 acres near Pleasanton, threatening homes and sending thick smoke into the sky as firefighters rushed to contain the blaze.
The wildfire, known as the Little Fire, ignited shortly before 3 p.m. near Little Valley Road and Hubbard Lane, south of Pleasanton in Alameda County, according to CAL FIRE. Fueled by hot weather and difficult terrain, the fire expanded quickly, forcing emergency officials to order evacuations in several nearby communities.
