San Francisco voters will have to decide on the fate of the city’s westernmost coastal boulevard — again. A proposal to reopen the Great Highway during weekdays has qualified for the ballot this November, threatening Sunset Dunes Park, which opened on the shuttered highway last year.
This will be the third time in four years that San Franciscans have voted on whether or not to allow cars on the highway.
The issue has become a perpetual grievance for many Sunset residents who in recent years have become a force in San Francisco politics. They played a key role in recalling a District Attorney, three school board members and their supervisor and in electing Mayor Daniel Lurie.
