(KRON) — An 18-year-old Richmond man who police said was an accomplice to a homicide in El Cerrito over the weekend was found and arrested Monday. Authorities are still searching for the shooter and the getaway driver.
Jacari Talifero Gibson was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on counts of murder and robbery after being taken into custody at 1:20 p.m. Monday. Following his arrest, police also searched his Richmond home.
The El Cerrito Police Department said Gibson was involved in a fatal shooting in the parking lot of El Cerrito’s Del Norte Plaza around 12:23 p.m. on Sunday. Witnesses told officers that a young man was involved in an altercation with two men near his car parked by the Los Moles Beer Garden restaurant. The victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds by first responders and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police released a photo of the suspect vehicle, a 2017 Nissan Maxima, that was captured by surveillance cameras. However, authorities said the camera video did not provide a license plate.
“Investigators collaborated with regional jurisdictions to identify a license plate for the suspect vehicle, thanks to Flock Safety and Vigilant ALPR cameras,” El Cerrito PD wrote. “This information proved essential in identifying the vehicle used by the suspects to flee the scene. El Cerrito Investigators placed the vehicle on a statewide alert list.”…
