OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — Two juvenile Pekin ducks— under 1 year old — were dumped at Lake Merritt and rescued by Oakland Animal Services Tuesday. OAS Director Joe Devries said they tried to treat one female duck that couldn’t walk or hold her head up.
She was too sick and had to be euthanized, Devries said.
“We tried to work with it. It certainly was suffering. And once our veterinarian makes a decision, then we humanely euthanize. It’s just the right thing to do,” said Devries.
