A San Jose climber who was reported missing after reaching the summit of Mount Shasta crawled through the night to a mountain cabin after sliding about 500 feet and suffering significant injuries to his feet, authorities said.
The man had summited the 14,163-foot Northern California peak at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, and ran into trouble shortly afterward while descending the Avalanche Gulch route, according to the U.S. Forest Service and Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office.
