The Tenderloin can’t seem to get rid of poop on the streets, a new city report found.
The annual Street and Sidewalk Maintenance Standards report, which aims to capture what a pedestrian might see on the city’s streets in a given day, found that someone walking around the Tenderloin is becoming even more likely to come across either human or animal feces. Evaluators saw feces on 81% of their Tenderloin evaluations, compared with 72% last year. They also saw more instances of feces each time.
“Feces are the most consistently worsening metric in the Tenderloin,” the report said.
Complaints to 311 bear that observation out, though less starkly: While the share of complaints about human feces remained the same citywide between fiscal years 2025 and 2026, those in the Tenderloin, which had the highest share of poop complaints of any neighborhood, increased by about two percentage points…
