In a concerning trend, Oakland businesses have fallen victim to a series of burglaries involving suspects using cars as battering rams to gain access to their premises. The latest incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, at Eddie’s Drive In Liquors located at 5491 College Ave. This marks at least the fourth time that this liquor store has been targeted using this bold and destructive method.
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) responded to the scene shortly before 4 a.m., finding the front door of Eddie’s Drive In Liquors forcibly removed from its hinges. Surveillance footage revealed that three individuals had intentionally crashed a car into the store, making off with bottles of liquor and cash from both the cash register and the store’s safe.
Store co-owner David Shrestha confirmed that this is the fourth such burglary in recent months, with the previous two incidents occurring on Christmas night and Thanksgiving day. The OPD has confirmed at least three burglaries between November 1, 2023, and Tuesday, but cannot yet confirm the fourth due to limited data availability before that date.
