Vaillancourt Fountain removal begins at SF Embarcadero

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Work got underway Monday to dismantle the controversial Vaillancourt Fountain at Embarcadero Plaza, despite an ongoing legal challenge over its removal.

Crews began the first phase Monday, removing grout and cataloging sections of the Brutalist concrete structure for possible reassembly elsewhere. Larger pieces, including arms weighing up to 10 tons are expected to be removed starting next month.
