Summer weather is knocking, but the Bay Area will wait a few days to open the door fully.
The shift from wet to warm weather will begin Wednesday as a disturbance drifts away and high pressure builds. Morning clouds may take a while to burn off, but partly sunny skies should prevail by early afternoon. High temperatures will be near early-May norms, in the 60s along the bay shoreline and 70s inland. Pacific beaches will remain cooler beneath a cloud-filled marine layer.
Clouds are expected to push inland overnight and thicken into a dense fog by Thursday morning. The building high-pressure system will trap moisture from recent rains near the ground, a perfect recipe for thick fog. Visibility could be less than a tenth of a mile along Highway 101.
After clouds and fog clear, Thursday afternoon’s high temperatures should mirror Wednesday’s, perhaps a few degrees warmer inland. Fog should clear more rapidly Friday as winds shift out of the north. That direction favors Wine Country for warm weather, where temperatures may push toward 80 degrees…
