San Jose woke up under a gray blanket this morning, with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures hovering near 55°F. A damp dew point helped keep the air feeling extra cool at ground level. By mid-morning, though, the cloud deck is expected to crack open, and inland neighborhoods should climb into the low to mid-80s this afternoon. It will turn into a bright, warm day that ends on a windy note as onshore breezes ramp up across bayfronts and exposed ridges.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Winds stay tame this morning, then steadily build through the afternoon. The strongest gusts are expected along bayfronts, coastal gaps and ridge tops. Aviation briefings point to gusts around 30 knots, or about 35 mph, near SFO this afternoon and evening, which means blustery conditions for hilltops and waterfront promenades.
Small craft advisories and gale warnings remain posted for parts of the coastal waters through Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Boaters and anyone thinking about venturing into exposed coastal waters should treat those alerts as a firm, not today.
Weekend Cool Down And A Rain Chance
Tomorrow looks hotter, with inland highs near 88°F, as the ridge driving today’s warmth peaks. That same ridge is expected to weaken over the weekend, and that shift will knock daytime highs back into the 70s on Saturday and Sunday.
