A report of an armed man at a Fremont assisted-living facility turned deadly yesterday when officers shot and killed a suspect inside a meeting room where he was reportedly holding at least two people, police said. The incident unfolded at a Walnut Avenue care facility, where officers say the man was carrying a duffel bag and a weapon before he was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.
Dispatchers began getting multiple 911 calls around 3:38 PM about a man with a gun at the facility, and police later said no officers were hurt during the confrontation, according to coverage in The Mercury News. The outlet, citing a police news release, noted that investigators are asking anyone who saw what happened or recorded video to come forward.
