A current county supervisor and a former Oakland public works director say they have been summoned to testify in the upcoming federal corruption trial of former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and recycling executives David and Andy Duong, adding to a growing witness list that touches many corners of East Bay government.
The trial, set to begin on Oct. 19, centers on allegations that Thao promised to use her power as mayor to steer a city housing contract to Evolutionary Homes, a modular housing company tied to the Duong family, which owns the city’s recycling contractor, California Waste Solutions.
In exchange for Thao’s help, prosecutors say, the Duongs financed a $75,000 campaign mailer attacking the former mayor’s opponents and paid her romantic partner, Andre Jones, $95,000 for a no-show job with the company…
