Large crowd gathers in San Jose to protest deadly attack in Kashmir

( KRON ) — More than 100 people rallied in downtown San Jose on Sunday to protest last week’s violent attack in the Indian-controlled province of Kashmir, where gunmen killed 26 tourists and injured 17 others.

The land has long been fought over between India and Pakistan. Pakistan denies it had any involvement in the attack. But tensions between the two countries are at a boiling point.

The Bay Area crowd of different religions and faiths rallied to unite against what they say is terrorism plaguing multiple countries. Also in attendance Sunday was Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, who said Hindu people have been targeted in the county as recently as 2024.

“We filed hate crime charges in that case because we want everyone here to know that they should feel comfortable living safely here and being proud of who they are,” Rosen said.
