Family of couple killed by Alameda County sheriff’s deputy to get $36 million settlement

Alameda County officials this week approved paying $36 million to the family of a Dublin couple shot dead by a sheriff’s deputy in 2022.

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted on the payment to settle a lawsuit filed by family members of Benison and Maria Tran. The pair were fatally shot inside their Dublin home on Sept. 7, 2022 by then-Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Devin Williams.
