One of our favorite artists in Santa Barbara must have been throwing his cowboy hat in the air on June 13, 1926. The San Francisco Chronicle published a full-page display of Ed Borein’s Western sketches. Some of the images were labeled: Cowpunchers Fords Run with Water, Longhorns, and Scratch ’em in the Shoulders. (Borein had been a full-time cowboy before turning to sketching, so his etches were believed to be the real thing.)
(Borein had an art shop in the El Paseo Building right on the Street in Spain. There is a plaque on the wall at the location of his shop. Have you seen it?) The SB Historical Museum has a whole gallery of his works…
