Hurricane Marie could bring dangerous waves, rip currents to SLO County beaches

A distant hurricane is creating dangerous swimming conditions along the San Luis Obispo County coast, where strong rip currents and elevated surf were expected through Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement for San Luis Obispo County beaches and parts of the Santa Barbara County coast.

Forecasters warned that widespread, powerful rip currents could pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Breaking waves could also sweep people from beaches and rocks, while unusually high water could pool in low-lying beach areas around high tide…
