- The U.S. Space Force has authorized a Tuesday evening SpaceX Falcon 9 launch from Vandenberg, warning tri-county residents of possible sonic booms.
The U.S. Space Force has approved the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the USSF-259 mission, Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, between 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. PT from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4).
A minimal possibility exists that residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may hear a sonic boom during the launch. Depending on weather and location, this event may sound like an abrupt crack of thunder according to prediction models.
