Mother slain in Santa Rosa had passion for bumblebees, family says

(KRON) — A mother who was slain in Santa Rosa’s first homicide of 2026 is being remembered for her adventurous spirit, volunteer work helping locals impacted by wildfires, and passion for saving bumblebees, family members said.

Joni Brown, 40, of Santa Rosa, was shot to death on June 8, according to police.

Her sister wrote on a verified GoFundMe page, “Born and raised in Sonoma County, Joni was a loving mother to two children — a daughter and a son. Joni was always ready to lend a hand, and she helped out during the 2017 fires in Sonoma County, showing her commitment to her community.”…
