Killer sentenced for murdering 13-year-old Cloverdale girl

(KRON) — A judge sentenced a killer on Friday to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering 13-year-old Sarah Geer in Cloverdale more than four decades ago.

James Oliver Unick, 64, of Willows, Calif., was sentenced by Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Laura Passaglia.On May 23, 1982, Sarah left a friend’s home to walk downtown in Cloverdale when she was accosted by Unick near an alley. Sarah was forcibly dragged down the alley to a secluded area. The District Attorney’s Office wrote, “The defendant brutally raped Sarah and strangled her to death using her own shorts as a ligature.”
