A Bay Area library that shut down under mysterious circumstances last month, later revealing the cause of the closure to be black mold, may cost as much as $500,000 to reopen following emergency remediation work.
Sebastopol City Council voted 4-0 on Tuesday to authorize up to $175,000 for the second phase of the project at the Sebastopol Regional Library following initial work that was completed for $47,688, a cost split between the Sonoma County Library and the city. Holly Hansen, a spokesperson for the city of Sebastopol, told SFGATE in an email that after determining the scope of reconstruction for the building, the city may pay up to $200,000 for the third phase of the project, a figure she acknowledged was a “rough estimate.”
