Gunman leads cops on wild high-speed chase then survives suicide attempt on California highway

A crazed gunman led cops on a wild chase on a California highway before trying to kill himself with his own firearm, according to police.

The madness began around 11 a.m. Friday on Highway 101 in Windsor and ended on I-80 near Fairfield — about 40 miles southwest of Sacramento — with the suspect critically wounded, WKGO-TV reported .

Police said the man, who was not identified, fired off a shot at another car, shattering the rear window and narrowly missing a woman inside before he took off in a silver Toyota sedan.
