Petaluma rattled by string of suspicious overnight fires downtown

Authorities in Petaluma are investigating a string of suspicious fires that broke out over two early mornings in the city’s downtown area, police said.

The first fire was reported around 3:22 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of North McDowell Boulevard, according to the Petaluma Police Department. Officers arrived to find a recreational vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews put out the blaze, and officials later determined the RV was unoccupied and abandoned. An arson investigator is working to determine whether the fire was intentionally set.
