First Alert Weather Days for the Suncoast

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are First Alert Weather Days as a Low pressure moves into the Suncoast bringing beneficial rain to our drought-stricken region.

Waves of showers and thunderstorms will move through periodically over the next several days. Some of these storms could pack a punch with gusty winds and heavy downpours that could cause water to pond up on our roads.

Starting Saturday morning, showers and thunderstorms will move in. Some heavy downpours with ponding on roads and difficult driving occur this morning. Storms will be on and off throughout the afternoon. Winds will pick up in the afternoon, gusting around 20 mph at times. Sunday morning also looks like the strongest storms could occur in the morning. Showers and thunderstorms will be more hit-and-miss by afternoon, and you’ll notice breezy conditions with winds gusting up to 20 mph. Monday will start wet with showers and thunderstorms likely before 2 p.m., then scattered storms after that. Gusty winds around 20 mph will continue through the afternoon. By Tuesday, the system moves out and we’ll see more scattered activity with drier conditions gradually taking over. Wednesday and Thursday look much better with just isolated storms possible.

An area of low pressure is forecast to form this weekend over the northeastern Gulf. This is the same system bringing beneficial rain to the Suncoast.
