Lakewood Ranch residents push back on planned 220-unit apartment complex off Lorraine Road

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (WWSB) – Residents near Lorraine Road say they support affordable housing — but argue a proposed 220-unit apartment complex called Point Grand is too large for the surrounding neighborhood.

Builder Hillpointe is asking Manatee County to review the project under Florida’s Live Local Act, a state law designed to expedite affordable housing development. The project still requires a formal written submission to the county.

Luzette Socash, who has lived in the area for more than two years, said she supports affordable housing but believes a development of this scale is not appropriate for a street lined with single-family homes…
