SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Friday morning is starting with sunshine and cooler temperatures following Thursday’s rain, but heavy showers and storms are expected to return by the afternoon commute.
Rain chances remain low through the morning hours. A slight chance of showers develops around noon as a sea breeze begins to form. The main threat arrives after 3 or 4 p.m., when showers and storms are expected to develop, some capable of producing locally heavy rainfall and dangerous lightning.
What to expect through the day
Forecast high temperatures will reach around 90 degrees, which is typical for this time of year. The heat index could reach 105 degrees late in the afternoon. Low temperatures Saturday morning are expected to drop into the mid-70s.
Beaches from Anna Maria Island south to Englewood will see sunshine through the morning, with clouds increasing as the sea breeze develops. An isolated shower or two is possible along the sea breeze front in the early afternoon before the more widespread storm activity begins.
Upper-level low to watch on the East Coast
An upper-level low is currently tracking along the East Coast, bringing increased cloud cover near Fort Pierce and stretching south toward West Palm Beach.
