The League of Women Voters of Manatee County Education Issues Committee observes the Manatee County School Board meetings for items of interest to citizens and the League and notes adherence, or lack of adherence, to good governance procedures and the sunshine laws. The following are the major points from the school board meeting on August 25, 2026.
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Chair Spray followed by Mr. Choate reading the district vision. He mentioned that several long time Manatee County school district employees have left the district. He then asked for a moment of silence honoring Brian Wilkes and Bob Bowling, both Palmetto High school coaches and athletic directors, who recently passed away. Palmetto High JROTC instructor, Brian Webb, a highly decorated US Army veteran, led the Pledge of Allegiance and was presented with a flag that flew over the Capitol.
