SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Get ready for another wet and stormy stretch across the Suncoast as today is a First Alert Weather Day. Sarasota and Bradenton will see numerous showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with highs around 90. Storms will develop inland before drifting toward the coast, bringing locally heavy rain, frequent lightning and the possibility of strong wind gusts.
Rain chances stay high Wednesday through Sunday as deep tropical moisture remains over the area. The remnants of Dolly will add even more moisture midweek, increasing the potential for heavy downpours. Both coastal and inland areas have a good chance of rain, and repeated storms could cause temporary street flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Temperatures will generally remain near 90, with no widespread severe weather expected.
For boaters, light east to southeast winds will continue, with an afternoon sea breeze developing near the coast. The main concern will be thunderstorms moving over Gulf waters during the late afternoon, evening and overnight hours.
