SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Sunday looks like a great day to get outside, but come prepared for the heat. A few isolated showers are possible in the morning. Expect mostly sunny skies with just isolated showers and thunderstorms popping up in the afternoon—nothing widespread. The main concern is how hot it’s going to feel. With highs near 91 degrees and humidity cranking up, the heat index could reach around 103 degrees, so stay hydrated and take breaks if you’re spending time outdoors. Winds will be light and variable early, then shift to the west at 5 to 15 mph later.
On Labor Day, a little more moisture returns to the Suncoast, which means showers and storms become more likely as the day goes on. We start with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible in the morning. Showers become more likely with the possibility of thunderstorms by afternoon. Highs stay near 89 degrees with west winds increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. If you’re planning outdoor activities, plan for afternoon storms and have a backup plan.

The National Hurricane Center is not expecting any tropical cyclone formation over the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, or The Gulf over the next seven days.

Additionally, wind shear—the change in wind speed and direction at different altitudes—remains unfavorable for tropical development in the Atlantic basin right now. The combination of these factors means the Suncoast will remain clear of any tropical threats as we head through the week. We’ll continue to monitor the tropics, but for now, you can focus on the heat and afternoon storms rather than worrying about hurricanes or tropical storms.
