Adjusted 180-unit apartment master plan approved

NORTH PORT — Developers planning to build 180 luxury apartments off Toledo Blade Boulevard received needed approvals Tuesday from North Port City Commission.

The commissioners approved the master plan for the project, named Serenity at North Port, after the developers agreed to a series of changes proposed by North Port city staff. Commissioners also approved land use and zoning changes the developers requested.

The developers, Toledo Blade LLC, represented by the Boone Law Firm in Venice, plan to build on 18.6 acres between Price and Hillsborough boulevards. They made their initial request in November, 2022.

Since the land had previously been zoned for single-family homes, a number of North Port residents from the surrounding community expressed concerns.

Some of the worries were “heard,” and the adjustments made to current plans were “commendable,” said commissioners Phil Stokes and Barbara Langdon, respectively.

Commissioner Debbie McDowell agreed with Stokes and Langdon, addressing the lack of neighbors speaking at Tuesday’s meeting, with just one resident speaking in opposition.
