Bradenton police investigate woman’s ‘suspicious disappearance’ after brother found dead

BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — The Bradenton Police Department is investigating a 67-year-old woman’s “suspicious disappearance” after her brother was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a Brooksville motel.

Catherine Stirm’s co-workers requested a welfare check after she had spoken to them on Jan. 22 but didn’t report to work in the following days, according to police.

Stirm’s car was found Tuesday at the Sawgrass Cove apartment complex in Bradenton, where her 64-year-old brother Scott Stirm lives, police said.

Law enforcement was unable to make contact with Scott Stirm, but a search of his apartment on Thursday made them “gravely concerned for Catherine’s welfare.”

His car was found Thursday night at a Days Inn on Windmere Road in Brooksville. He was found dead in a room with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

Catherine Stirm was not at the motel, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 941-932-9300.
