Business owners left with questions on proposed Fruitville Road development

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The future of a well-known cluster of businesses along Fruitville Road is now uncertain, as a proposed redevelopment project could bring major changes to the area.

Dozens of concerned business owners gathered Tuesday evening at the Fogartyville Arts Center to learn more about a proposal known as “1899 Fruitville,” which would replace a group of colorful, historic bungalows with a new apartment complex.

The project, led by Tennessee-based Bristol Development Group, calls for a 324-unit apartment building on nearly 3.5 acres between Fourth Street and Gillespie Avenue, along Fruitville Road and Osprey Avenue.
