SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Northport will continue its burn ban despite Sarasota County lifting restrictions two days ago.
Municipalities can maintain their own burn bans and water restrictions independent of county decisions, as long as local rules do not relax below county regulations. Northport officials deemed the continued ban necessary due to drier conditions and a higher number of fires in the area.
The area experiences lower relative humidity and rain compared to other parts of the coastal communities.
