State, local officials shut down illegal gambling operations in Manatee County

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — State and local officials are cracking down on illegal gambling operations, recently shutting down three arcades in Manatee County and seizing hundreds of illegal gambling machines.

The Florida Gaming Control Commission, along with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, conducted “Operation Silent Spin” at Spin City Arcade, Mike’s Arcade, and a third business that went unnamed.

Over the course of the operation, authorities seized 265 illegal machines and over $120,000 in gambling proceeds, the FGCC said.

“These illegal gambling businesses are not harmless storefront operations,” L. Carl Herold, Director of Gaming Enforcement, said in a statement. “They attract crime, generate illicit cash economies, and create serious public safety risks for surrounding communities.”

The commission also said that multiple criminal charges have been filed in relation to the investigation, as well as immigration detainers. No additional information was provided about suspects that were arrested or what kind of charges are being considered…
